Antebellum copper canteen. Obvious striations in sheet
copper indicative of ante-bellum origins. Large zinc screw
cap with March 3rd, 1858 patent on top. Original leather
sling reflects "ghost" of sling loops indicating long usage.
Probably used as mounted canteen as
per sling length. Examined at November, 2008, Richmond
show by Mike O'Donnell and his opinion was that it is definitely
ante-bellum in construction. Very rare,
attractive.
